I’m a little lost in the thicket of tax requirements. The IRS requires that we report every royalty payment of $10.00 or more in a tax year, including payments to authors living outside the US, regardless of treaty status.

Spreading the fun around, all of those non-US authors are required to have a US individual tax identification number (ITIN), again, regardless of treaty status, reported on the W-8BEN. To get an ITIN, you can send off your original passport by itself or multiple other original forms of identification together. Don’t want to send off the originals and wait to get them back, assuming you do get them back? You can go to the US Embassy in your country and they’ll certify your copies (which the IRS puts in quotes. Are they ironic copies?). They don’t say how much that costs. OR, if you can’t go to the embassy, you can go to a proper authority as approved by The Hague Convention, which will give you an “apostille”–in Ireland it only costs €20.

All that to legally accept a payment of $10.00.

If anyone has information on how to more easily acquire an ITIN, we’d love to hear about it.

Unfortunately, we’ve discovered (after already spending money on it, and isn’t that always the way?) that the main computer isn’t worth salvaging. We’ve recovered all the data except email, and are hoping to be able to restore that, as well.

Please continue to be patient. We have the backup computer up and running with more memory and redundant backups, and all necessary software reinstalled. Now it’s just a question of getting everything back–the bookmarks, email accounts, files in the right places, and so on. We expect to be back to functional on Monday, June 14th.

If you’re expecting a response from us for something you’ve sent us, please give us until the 16th to review the files we’ve been able to recover and get back on track. Responses to the Ghost and Greek anthos should be out the end of this month, with our, again, sincere apologies.

Stick with us, please. Great things are coming.

The main computer is still dead. What ought to have been a simple power supply change seems to have become a dead motherboard, and the backup drive still isn’t talking to the backup computer, but we expect to have it working this coming week, and then we’ll hit the ground running.

We have great releases coming up (a variety that should make just about any reader happy, and just in time for summer)! Keep an eye on out for them. We’ll get them out just as soon as we get our computer woes sorted.

Don’t forget! Monday is the last day for the Brenda Novak Auction in support of Juvenile Diabetes Research. We’ve donated a lot, and we’re sure you’ll find plenty of other donations there that will catch your eye.

Our main computer is dead, and we’re not sure how long it will take to resuscitate it. It should have been yesterday, but it’s still not working. All is not lost, we’ve been using regular backups since the last time this happened. Unfortunately, the backup computer refuses to recognize the backup drive.

As a result, responses to anthology submissions are further delayed, as is response to some emails.

We will have this issue resolved soon. Please be patient. In the meantime, if you have questions or issues that can’t wait, email drollerie.press@gmail.com.

We’ve been tidying up around here a bit, so hopefully you’ll be able to find things easier. We separated the authors by alpha sort order so they’d be easier to find, and gave the anthologies their own page. We also added the ability to log in to the blog using your OpenID, Google, Yahoo, LiveJournal, Facebook, or Twitter account to make it easier to log in and comment or download a freebie (read an e-book week is coming!).

PenFlourish, our romance, erotica, and women’s fiction imprint is looking lovely as well, with a spiffy new color palette, and more posts from more authors. Be sure to swing by there and check it out when you have time, but remember that you have to register for the site (separate from this one) to read the posts since many of them are of an adult nature.

The other imprints will be polished up a little more soon, new books are on the horizon, and we’ll be chatting on Sunday the 31st, so be sure to come visit us then.
