Working with Us

We are not currently taking on any new staff at this time. When we do, the following will apply.

If you’re interested in working as an editor or imprint editor with Drollerie Press for any of our imprints, or would like to work with us to fulfill an educational requirement or complete an internship, we’re interested in talking to you. We request that our interns be willing to dedicate 3 months or more to the project, that editors agree to work with us for 6 months or more, and that imprint editors dedicate a year or more to working with Drollerie Press.

Editor Candidates

Drollerie Press editors find our values compatible with their own and feel a passion for at least one area of interest to us (e-books, science fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery, romance, cross-genre works, interstitial arts, mythic fiction, world fiction, GLBT fiction, women’s studies, cultural dialogue, gender, identity, pop culture, sexuality, class, race, and/or social injustice) and have a distinct point of view.

In addition, our editors have strong grammar and punctuation skills, and are exceptional at bringing out Story. They understand and help the author to improve plot, pacing, character, narrative voice, conflict, and point-of-view. They recognize inconsistencies and issues with showing vs. telling, among many others.

Our editors must be good communicators and strong self-starters who take responsibility for the quality of their work and for completing it on time.

Finally, our editors recognize that, on the continuum of ideal employment, this is much closer to a labor of love than a get-rich-quick scheme. We intend to be around for a long time. To ensure that, we’re working for slow, careful growth, quality product, and strong, mutually beneficial relationships with our readers, authors, editors, artists, distributors, printers, booksellers, and technical support.

To signal your interest, please e-mail dfisher @ drolleriepress.com and describe your area(s) of interest and point of view, and provide a resume and a minimum of one reference, preferably two or three, who can speak to your skills, character, and interests.

Intern and Educational Opportunities

Interns and students who work with us are encouraged to really dig into the mechanics of a small press and the publishing industry with us. We offer paid editorial internships, and unpaid student opportunities, but students may try their hand at every aspect of publication, including submissions reading, editing, copy-editing, typesetting, cover art and design, formatting for electronic publication, website edits, blog posts, marketing, public relations, market research, program development, and the myriad other things that go into making a publishing concern a success.

If you’re interested in completing an internship or working toward educational credit, please contact dfisher @ drolleriepress.com with your needs and interests, references with email addresses and/or telephone numbers, the name of your school, and your advisor’s contact information.
