The Helios project gives computers to poor kids who don’t have their own. With school starting up, the need is once again front and center. The most recent post is kind of heartbreaking and wonderful all at once. Seems one of the kind souls who gave a computer didn’t think the recipient should have gotten it because he has Downs. “It was wasted on an idiot.” So they took it back . . . and gave the boy a better one instead.
If you’ve got some change to give, please go donate what you can afford from now through the end of September, then come back and post a comment that you’ve done so, and we’ll send you a coupon for 25% off one purchase at the bookshop–anything you buy at one time will be 25% off. We have some great stuff coming up between now and Halloween, and more coming before the end of the year. Use it now or later, it will be good whenever you choose to use it.
Please spread the word. If you’d like to offer something so that others will donate, add it to the comments and I’ll edit this post.
Tell you what, I’ll start.
1. The first person who donates the cost of an entire computer will receive a complete manuscript edit–let’s say $500.00 or more.
2. The first person who donates $150.00 or more will receive the only copy of a digital painting of their choice of subject, suitable for cover art, if desired, or for hanging on the wall, or for whatever other use they choose to put it.
Of course, you don’t have to comment, but I do hope you’ll give if you can and you’ll spread the word.
Thanks for getting the word out about this. I consider Ken Starks to be a good friend of mine. Because of what I read, I immediately had to do something, so I dropped him $60. I didn’t do it for the deal you’re offering on your site. In fact, I came here after donating to discover this for the first time. I’m here to show you that there are those who do care and who do pay attention. Thanks for having a warm heart and a clear mind.
